Invisalign

Steps Involved in IVF:

Procedure Description

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment designed to straighten teeth using clear, removable aligners rather than traditional metal braces. Made from a flexible thermoplastic material called SmartTrack, these aligners are custom-made for each patient based on digital scans of their teeth. The aligners are virtually invisible, hence the name “Invisalign,” making this treatment popular among individuals looking for a discreet solution to teeth alignment.

Unlike conventional braces that require metal brackets and wires, Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear, as they are molded to fit snugly over the teeth. Throughout the treatment process, the aligners gradually shift the teeth into their desired positions. Each set of aligners is worn for about one to two weeks before being replaced by the next set in the series. The series of aligners are designed to move teeth incrementally until the final, ideal alignment is achieved.

The primary aim of Invisalign is to treat a variety of orthodontic issues such as overcrowding, gaps between teeth, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. The use of clear aligners has made orthodontic treatment much more accessible and aesthetically pleasing, especially for adults and teens who may feel self-conscious about wearing traditional braces.

Procedure Duration

The Invisalign treatment process begins with an initial consultation with an orthodontist or dentist trained in Invisalign technology. During this consultation, a comprehensive assessment of the patient's teeth is conducted. Digital impressions, x-rays, and photographs are taken to create a customized treatment plan. These diagnostic tools allow the orthodontist to create a 3D digital model of the patient's teeth, mapping out the movements required to achieve the desired alignment.

The entire duration of the Invisalign treatment varies based on the complexity of the case. On average, the process can last anywhere from 6 months to 18 months. However, patients with more significant orthodontic issues may require a longer treatment duration. The aligners need to be worn for at least 20 to 22 hours per day, only to be removed while eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, or flossing.

In terms of recovery, Invisalign treatment is generally smooth. Since the aligners are non-invasive and custom-fitted, there is minimal discomfort compared to metal braces. Some patients may experience mild soreness or pressure when switching to a new set of aligners, but this typically subsides within a few days as the teeth adjust. Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled every 6 to 8 weeks to monitor progress and provide new aligners as needed.

Benefits

  • Discreet Appearance: Invisalign aligners are clear and nearly invisible, making them an attractive option for individuals who want a low-profile orthodontic solution.
  • Comfortable to Wear: The aligners are smooth and custom-made to fit snugly over the teeth, reducing irritation often associated with traditional braces.
  • Removable for Convenience: Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners can be easily removed for eating, brushing, and special occasions, allowing greater flexibility in daily activities.
  • No Food Restrictions: Since the aligners are removable, patients can enjoy their favorite foods without worrying about damaging brackets or wires.
  • Customized Treatment Plan: The use of 3D technology allows for a precise and personalized treatment plan, ensuring optimal results.

Risks & Considerations

While Invisalign is a safe and effective treatment, certain risks and considerations should be taken into account:

  • Compliance is Crucial: Patients must wear their aligners for 20-22 hours per day. Failure to comply can lead to longer treatment times and suboptimal results.
  • Initial Discomfort: Patients may experience mild soreness or discomfort when switching to a new set of aligners as the teeth adjust to the pressure.
  • Potential for Speech Changes: Some patients may experience slight changes in their speech, such as a temporary lisp, when first wearing aligners. This usually resolves as they get used to the appliance.
  • Not Suitable for All Cases: Invisalign is highly effective for mild to moderate orthodontic issues but may not be the best solution for severe misalignments or complex dental conditions.
  • Regular Follow-ups Required: Patients must commit to periodic check-ups every few weeks to ensure the treatment is progressing as planned.

How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital

Selecting the right professional and clinic for Invisalign treatment is crucial for optimal results. Here are some key considerations:

  • Look for Certified Invisalign Providers: Ensure the orthodontist or dentist is certified and experienced in providing Invisalign treatment. Certification indicates that the practitioner has undergone specialized training to administer this type of orthodontic care.
  • Research Clinic Accreditation and Reviews: When choosing a dental clinic abroad, look for facilities that are accredited by reputable organizations and have a strong track record of positive patient reviews. Check if the clinic uses the latest technology and adheres to international safety and hygiene standards.

Additionally, it’s important to communicate clearly with the provider about treatment expectations, costs, and timelines. Virtual consultations before traveling can provide insight into the treatment process and help patients feel more confident in their decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?

The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.

What happens during egg retrieval?

When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment  where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.

What happens to the eggs?

In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle.  Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.

How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?

The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.

Embryoscope©

Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
