BBL

Steps Involved in IVF:

Procedure Description

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a popular cosmetic procedure aimed at enhancing the shape and size of the buttocks. It involves the transfer of fat from various areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, and hips, to the buttocks. This process creates a more contoured and lifted appearance, resulting in a rounder, fuller backside. BBL has gained immense popularity in recent years due to its ability to provide a natural enhancement without the use of implants.

The procedure begins with liposuction to remove excess fat from donor areas. Once extracted, the fat is purified and processed to ensure the most viable cells are selected for reinjection. This purified fat is then strategically injected into different layers of the buttocks to achieve a more contoured and voluminous look. The surgeon carefully sculpts the buttocks to ensure a natural and symmetrical result, often aiming to enhance the body's overall proportions.

BBL is considered a form of autologous fat transfer, meaning it uses the patient's own fat cells. This not only reduces the risk of allergic reactions but also provides a more natural look and feel compared to synthetic implants. The results are typically long-lasting, especially when performed by a skilled surgeon who carefully balances aesthetics with safety.

Procedure Duration

The duration of a Brazilian Butt Lift typically spans several hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure and the amount of fat being transferred. On average, the surgery takes about 2 to 4 hours. It can be performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia, allowing patients to return home the same day.

The procedure involves several distinct phases. First is the liposuction phase, during which excess fat is harvested from donor areas like the abdomen, flanks, back, or thighs. This process may take up to an hour or more, depending on the volume of fat being removed. Once the fat is harvested, it undergoes a purification process, ensuring that only healthy fat cells are reinjected. Finally, the purified fat is strategically injected into the buttocks to create the desired contour and fullness.

Recovery from a BBL is crucial to the success of the surgery. Patients are generally advised to avoid sitting or lying directly on their buttocks for at least two weeks to prevent pressure on the newly grafted fat cells. Special cushions or pillows can be used to alleviate pressure when sitting is necessary. Most patients can resume light activities within a week, with full recovery typically taking about 4 to 6 weeks. The final results become more apparent as swelling subsides and the fat cells stabilize in their new location.

Benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift

  • Enhanced Body Contour: BBL provides a sculpted and fuller appearance to the buttocks, enhancing the body’s overall proportions and silhouette.
  • Natural-Looking Results: Since the procedure uses the patient's own fat, the results often look and feel more natural compared to synthetic implants.
  • Simultaneous Body Sculpting: Liposuction of donor areas, such as the abdomen or thighs, not only provides fat for the transfer but also slims and shapes these regions, enhancing overall body contour.
  • Improved Self-Confidence: The enhanced body shape often leads to a boost in self-confidence and body image satisfaction.
  • Minimally Invasive: BBL is considered less invasive than procedures using implants, with smaller incisions and reduced risks of complications related to foreign materials.

Risks & Considerations of a Brazilian Butt Lift

  • Fat Embolism: One of the most serious risks associated with BBL is fat embolism, where fat cells can inadvertently enter the bloodstream and cause blockages. This is why it is crucial to choose an experienced and qualified surgeon.
  • Fat Reabsorption: A percentage of the injected fat may be reabsorbed by the body over time, which can affect the final results. Surgeons often inject slightly more fat than needed to account for this loss.
  • Infection: As with any surgical procedure, there is a risk of infection. Strict adherence to post-operative care instructions is essential to minimize this risk.
  • Asymmetry or Irregularities: If the fat is not evenly distributed or if some areas do not retain the grafted fat as well as others, it can lead to asymmetry or irregular contours.
  • Prolonged Recovery and Discomfort: Patients must avoid sitting or putting pressure on the buttocks for several weeks after the procedure. This can make recovery challenging and require adjustments in daily activities.

How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital

When selecting a doctor and hospital for a BBL, it is important to do thorough research. Look for a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience specifically in performing Brazilian Butt Lifts. Ask to see before-and-after photos of their previous work to ensure their style matches your desired outcome. Reviews and patient testimonials can also provide insight into the surgeon's reputation and patient satisfaction.

Ensure that the hospital or clinic is accredited by a recognized international healthcare accreditation organization, offering high standards of safety, cleanliness, and patient care. It is also advisable to confirm that the clinic has the appropriate facilities for handling any complications should they arise. A thorough consultation with the surgeon, where you can discuss your goals, the surgical plan, and potential risks, is vital to achieving the best results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?

The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.

What happens during egg retrieval?

When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment  where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.

What happens to the eggs?

In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle.  Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.

How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?

The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.

Embryoscope©

Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
