All-On-4 Dental Implants

Steps Involved in IVF:

Procedure Description

All-On-4 Dental Implants are a groundbreaking solution for individuals who have lost most or all of their teeth, offering a fixed and natural-looking full-arch restoration. Unlike traditional dentures, which can be uncomfortable and require adhesives, All-On-4 implants provide a permanent and stable set of teeth using only four strategically placed implants per jaw. This technique allows for maximum support and comfort while restoring functionality and aesthetics.

The process involves the placement of titanium implants in the jawbone, which act as the new root for your teeth. The two posterior implants are inserted at an angle to maximize contact with the bone, providing stability without the need for bone grafting. After the implants are placed, a set of prosthetic teeth is attached, offering patients an immediate improvement in their smile and bite.

What makes All-On-4 dental implants unique is their efficiency and reliability. Patients can regain their confidence and quality of life by enjoying the freedom of eating, speaking, and smiling comfortably. The entire process is designed to be less invasive than traditional dental implant techniques, making it a favorable option for those looking for an efficient and durable dental restoration solution.

Procedure Duration

The All-On-4 dental implant procedure is typically performed in a few phases, allowing for efficient treatment and swift results. Here’s what patients can expect regarding the timeline:

Pre-Surgery Phase (Consultation & Planning):

The first stage involves a comprehensive evaluation by a dental professional. This includes X-rays, 3D scans, and a full oral examination to assess the health of the jawbone and oral tissues. Once the treatment plan is devised, impressions of the mouth are taken to create a custom-fitted prosthesis.

Surgery Day (Implant Placement):

The actual surgery usually takes about 2-4 hours per arch. The dentist will prepare the mouth by removing any remaining teeth, cleaning the gums, and positioning the implants into the jawbone. Local anesthesia or conscious sedation is commonly used to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. After implant placement, a temporary set of teeth is attached, which can be worn while the mouth heals.

Post-Surgery & Recovery (Healing & Final Prosthesis):

Recovery time can vary from patient to patient, but generally, it takes around 3-4 months for the implants to integrate with the jawbone (a process called osseointegration). During this healing period, the temporary prosthesis provides functionality. Once the gums and bone have fully healed, patients return to their dentist for the final phase: attaching the permanent prosthetic teeth. The new teeth are custom-designed for optimal aesthetics, function, and comfort.

Benefits of All-On-4 Dental Implants

  • Immediate Results & Quick Transformation: Patients leave with a new smile on the same day as the surgery, as a temporary prosthetic is placed immediately after the implants are inserted.
  • Natural Look & Feel: All-On-4 implants mimic the look, feel, and function of natural teeth, providing patients with confidence and comfort in their day-to-day lives.
  • Stability & Durability: The implants fuse with the jawbone, providing a strong foundation for the prosthesis. With proper care, All-On-4 implants can last for many years.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: Since only four implants are needed per arch (compared to traditional full-mouth implants), the cost is reduced, making it a more affordable choice.
  • Avoidance of Bone Grafting: The angled placement of the implants often eliminates the need for bone grafting, making the procedure quicker and less invasive for most patients.

Risks & Considerations

  • Infection Risk: Any surgery carries a risk of infection. Patients must maintain proper oral hygiene and follow post-op instructions to minimize this risk.
  • Implant Failure: Though uncommon, implants may fail to integrate with the bone. This can be due to factors such as insufficient bone density, smoking, or medical conditions like diabetes.
  • Prosthetic Breakage or Wear: The prosthetic teeth attached to the implants may break or wear down over time. While durable, they may require adjustments or replacements as needed.
  • Nerve Damage or Sinus Complications: Incorrect implant placement could potentially damage nerves or penetrate the sinus cavity. Choosing a skilled professional can significantly reduce these risks.
  • Bone Loss Over Time: Although All-On-4 implants help stimulate the jawbone and prevent bone loss, some patients may still experience slight bone resorption over time.

How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital

When seeking All-On-4 dental implants, it's crucial to select a qualified dental professional with expertise in implantology. Start by researching clinics with strong reputations for dental implant procedures, ensuring they are accredited by a recognized authority and have positive reviews from previous patients. Look for a dental surgeon who specializes in All-On-4 implants, as their experience can significantly impact the outcome.

During the consultation, ask about the surgeon’s credentials, training, and success rate with All-On-4 procedures. Inquire about the clinic's equipment, technology, and sterilization practices to ensure they align with international standards. Building trust and confidence with the healthcare provider is key to a successful dental implant experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?

The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.

What happens during egg retrieval?

When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment  where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.

What happens to the eggs?

In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle.  Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.

How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?

The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.

Embryoscope©

Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
