Slovakia is a small country located in Central Europe. With its diverse landscape and history it has much to offer the medical tourist. Bordering countries are Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Ukraine.

Slovakia is rapidly becoming well-known for cosmetic surgery and alternative medical treatments due to low cost and high quality. Currently the country is popular with Western Europeans, but more and more North Americans are beginning to visit its borders.
Language
Slovak is the main language. English and German are the most often used foreign languages. Less frequently used are French, Spanish, Italian or Russian. In the South of Slovakia Hungarian is very common.

Moderate climatic zone, with changing four seasons, average temperature in winter -2°C, in summer 21°C. In some mountain ranges the snow remains on average 130 days per year.

Visas
For the citizens of the European Union a valid personal ID is sufficient. Some other countries need a valid visa to enter Slovakia, you can find the list on the home page of the Ministry of foreign affairs of Slovakia or you can get informed directly at your embassy.
Before the arrival to Slovakia no special health precautions are necessary. In case that you plan to spend a time in the woods, the tick vaccine is advisable and insect repellents.
Hotels
Tourists are fond of Slovak mountains and recreational centres located near them. There are also many artificial water reservoirs as an option for summer time vacation. Spa towns are also important centres of recreation.

Shopping
Opening Hours of Shops
Most shops are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Saturday to 12:00 or 1:00 p.m.
Smaller grocery stores are open daily untill 9:00 p.m.
Shopping centres are open 7 days a week and the stores inside are usually available daily from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Shopping and Entertainment Centres
The largest shopping and entertainment centres are located in Bratislava.
