Czech is the official language of the Czech Republic. Besides this, other languages are spoken along the country, particularly Slovak, German and Polish. Some tourist places like hotels, restaurants and clinics have English speaking staff.


Climate

Prague has a mild climate with warm, wet summers and cold winters. Average summer temperatures are 75-79° F (24-26°C), with chilly nights. In winter daytime temperatures hover around freezing, falling several degrees lower at night. Spring is generally sunny, the wettest months being in summer, May to August. Snow is rare in the city.

 

Visa / Entrance Requirements

U.S., Canadian and other American and European citizens do not require a visa to enter the Czech Republic. The passport must be valid for a period of at least 90 days beyond the expected length of stay in the Czech Republic, counted from the date of entering the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic offers a range of hotels to suit every taste and pocket. Hotels range from very inexpensive accommodation in very nice hotels starting at €40 to rooms in mid-range hotels for €100 to high class rooms above $300. Many hotels boast a range of facilities such as swimming pool, sauna and gym.


Currency

The official currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech crown (koruna).

The exchange rate of Czech crowns to US Dollars is: 100 Czech Koruna = 5.21 US Dollar

Although the Czech Republic is part of the European Union, the euro is not widely accepted yet. Some stores, restaurants and hotels accept payments in euros but the exchange rate may not be very good.

To call a cell phone in the Czech Republic from the U.S. or Canada you must dial 011 + 420 + 6 or 7 and then the phone number you want to call.

In order to call the U.S. or Canada from the Czech Republic you must dial 00 + 1 + area code + phone number.

Sightseeing

Prague , the Czech capital, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world with an inimitable atmosphere created by its millennium of history. Countless museums, galleries and other tourist sites can also be found in the regions of the Czech Republic.

Prague has a refreshing mixture of architectural styles within the city and some impressive icons such as the huge Prague Castle (Hradcany) and the Old Town itself, which is loaded with historical treasures. The city has numerous museums and galleries as well as a varied and exciting nightlife. The World Heritage town of Telc in the south is known for its castles and rolling hills, while the Bohemian spa town of Karlovy Vary is also a must-see. Prague has a good mix of local brands, well-known luxury western stores and antique shops. Buying amazing Bohemian crystal is famous in the world for its quality and creative designs. The Czech Republic is also known for its garnet mines. The Czech garnet stones, which have bright pinkish tone, are used for making all kinds of jewelry.

Back street shops located in hidden passages and arcades of the Little Quarter and the Old Town bring you a more eclectic shopping style. Wonder around these tiny shops and look for all sorts of rare finds such as antique books, handmade crafts, wooden toys, jewelry and crystal.
